Major - Lost Boy - Animation Progress #4 - Shot 11

I was originally going to cut this shot for the hand in as it was a big chunk to lip sync but I wanted to do it as it really describes the Present Graeme's character and after hearing the sound that my composer Brian Freeland made I couldn't cut it. Shot 12 is near completion I have just been modelling the assets for that shot, including the clappaboard, conveyer belt and Present Graeme's knick knacks that are inside the airport tray for shot 13.

Major: Lost Boy - Score - First Draft

The composer for Lost Boy - Brian Freeland has been busy bringing the film to life, Brians website details his skills and previous work and I choose Brian because I liked how he does classical elements but can also do more technical experimental pieces which I want to mesh together for Lost Boy.  I am really enjoying seeing these updates flourish - I love the leitmotif for Present Graeme, it's clumsy, comical with a dash of trouble. I really love the screechy sounds for the climax of the airport scene and the part where Young Graeme is introduced hit me right in the feels as it shows innocence, nostalgia and a dreamy vibe which correlates to him having his head in the clouds and always dreaming big. As this is just a first draft more elements will be added along with notes that I will make, so far hearing the sound bring the previz to life really gives me more incentive to keep on trucking and get this film made! I cannot wait to replace Moom with my polished sets and characters and see them manifest along with the score :)

@ALan Major: Lost Boy - Post-Viz - Animation Progress #3 Version 2

I have added in movement to present Graeme's spine and cog control and a breathe in and out for the exhale of his cigarette - I think he looks much more vivacious and alive now, I do think there is room for improvement, I still need to animate the eyebrows too.

Major: Lost Boy - Post-Viz - Animation Progress #3

Todays Animation Progress - I enjoyed this one, I decided to have Present Graeme version 2 face the audience when rolling along his ball of tobacco - I think its more comical that way :)

Major: Lost Boy Post-Viz - Animation Progress #2

I am really enjoying animating and I am getting quicker at it particularly with the lip sync as Alan advised me I didn't really have a mouth open - wide and narrow blend shape as the rest of the wide and narrow blendshapes were connected to a phoneme it slowed the previous lip sync on shot one down but now that I have created and connected the wide and narrow shapes I am finding myself not needing the majority of the phoneme blend shapes as most of it is done with the jaw, wide and narrow. I do think the running shot could be better I want to return to this also the shot where Present Graeme smacks his head with the nervous ball of energy flourishing from his eyeball I want to lip sync this part but did have the wide and narrow blend shapes done for that shot - I will return to it and reconnect in the blend shapes.

Major: Lost Boy - Present Graeme - New Toon Lines

I have been playing around with my scenes to try and make them look like the final renders which previously contained the new AI Toon for Arnold but as these only show up in the renders and not playblasts it wasn't feasible as I need my post-viz for hand in to look as much like the final film as possible. In the rendering tab there is a toon section that I applied an outline to Present Graeme from which shows in the viewport and when I playblast, I Simply converted the toon lines to polygons in the same section to see if they would show up in a render and they do! I think it looks so much nicer and sketchier which correlates nicely to my concept art and I like that is slightly offset and imperfect. I will be using this instead of the AI toon as I don't like how perfect the AI toon looks and it's also annoying that the lines get thicker when the camera is further away - I will be applying this method to all characters and certain objects throughout the film especially in the Art Room instead of having to make alpha channels around boxes - I'll keep the ones that are done but will be adding more with this method. Because the toon lines are polygons there is a lot of options to manipulate with which I think can add some nice impact to anxious elements.

Major: Lost Boy Post-Viz - Animation Progress #1 Scene 1 - Shot 1

Now the fun starts! I am throughly enjoying animating :D Some refinements can be made, I should start to get into the flow more with animating and get quicker, I followed the attached tutorial below to help with the lip sync as I find it kind of difficult to do it definitely can be improved but the video thought me a valuable lesson that I never thought of before - sound is delayed so the face shapes start before the actual sound happens.
