I like the quality of these, Graeme - your world reminds me of this great animated adaptation of Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart:

You might want to crisp your style up a bit however - keeping it loose, but making it a little more purposeful: check out the 'UPA style' that characterised cartoons of the 50s and 60s - notice the strong emphasis on line, but the relaxed relationship to 'colouring in' and shading:
So it's crisp, clean - but also loose in terms of 'realism' - you should consider working with the pen tool in illustrator maybe to tidy things up in terms of line - and then work back into the resulting images in Photoshop maybe, in terms of using the fill bucket or similar?
Thank you for the kind words and links Phil :) I'm trying to be more loose and free in terms of designing so that I don't overwhelm myself in the detail and that UPA style is exactly what I was going for but couldn't find a name for it!, I find illustrator and the pen tool tricky to use to be honest, I don't have much experience with it but all the more reason to use it, I'll definitly give it a whirl, thanks again :)
If you're not following our third year blogs... you should be: if you're not, I want you to start with these two blogs, in so much as the types of projects here relate to your FSTS project - original scripts into animatics, requiring character design pipelines etc. I want you all to spend some time really looking at these projects because they are why you're doing what you're doing and why it's worth it - and why making your own animations from scratch is a really complex, challenging and exciting business!
Thanks Phil I do follow some of the third year blogs, I'm trying to find that post that you made yonks ago listing all the third year blogs, I don't suppose you have the link handy?
